JAIPUR: When brothers in a family get into the same trade, interestingly, the battle for supremacy is the first thought that comes to mind. And in that very battle, Pathan senior, that is, Yusuf has emerged with flying colours while his brother Irfan is striving hard to meet expectations in the Indian Premier League. From being remembered just for his six in the World Twenty20 final against Pakistan, Team Jaipur's Yusuf has come a long way to establish himself as one of the most destructive batsmen in the league.
In the IPL, Yusuf has managed 287 runs from 11 innings so far, but what's impressive is his strike rate of 180.5. He has managed three fifties in this fast-and-furious event and in all has hit 14 sixes, which puts him in eighth position in the list of maximum six-hitters in the IPL. Such has been his hitting that comparisons with Irfan have gone out of the window, for now.
Not only that, the Baroda-born allrounder has made a place in the heart of Jaipur fans, for which he has had to fight with his high-profile teammates, Australian allrounder Shane Watson, who has been in prime form with bat and ball, hard-hitting South African skipper Graeme Smith and former Australia leg-spinner and Team Jaipur skipper Shane Warne. And considering Yusuf's lack of experience at international level, it is a great achievement and one that he can be proud of. Interestingly, when Warne was asked about his views on the shortest format of the game, he had this to say: "Twenty20 is all about surprises. It's about doing something that the opposition doesn't really expect."
